Dawn2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a surprise to many moviegoers. What looked to be a crass relaunch of a property that was long dead turned out to be one of the best films of 2011 and an exciting and inventive way to restart the franchise. The sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is not the same film. It’s better.

About 30 years after the original Planet of the Apes series ended, Tim Burton decided to make a new one. I don’t know where he was going with this. It was a little bit like the original series, but not really that much. It followed the same plotline. An astronaut crash lands on a planet where humans are the inferior race and apes are superior.

This movie had a pretty good cast. Mark Wahlberg (The Italian Job) and Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter) were the main characters. I feel like Tim Burton has worked with Carter a lot, though. She was also in Sweeney Todd and Corpse Bride, both of which were directed by Burton.
