Happy 35th Anniversary, The Empire Strikes Back!

The Fog of Ward.

It is a dark time for the
Rebellion. Although the Death
Star has been destroyed,
Imperial troops have driven the
Rebel forces from their hidden
base and pursued them across
the galaxy.

Evading the dreaded Imperial
Starfleet, a group of freedom
fighters led by Luke Skywalker
has established a new secret
base on the remote ice world
of Hoth.

The evil lord Darth Vader,
obsessed with finding young
Skywalker, has dispatched
thousands of remote probes into
the far reaches of space….

It was a hot day in Tampa (aren’t they all?) on May 21st, 1980, when a couple of friends and I, after standing for four hours in the hot Florida sun finally were able to make our way into a theater that no longer exists, soaking up as much air conditioning, Coke, and popcorn as our bodies could absorb when after three long years of anticipation, these familiar words…

Zombeavers – Review

SCREENPHILES

Zombeavers movie poster

“Watch If Just So You Can Say You Do Did (Or You Really Like Bill Burr).  Other Than That, I’ve Got Nothin.'”

Bill Burr!  Bill Burr is one of the first people you see when Zombeavers starts, and maybe it’s just that he’s not too discriminating about the roles he chooses, but I was genuinely happy to see him.  That being said, I’m not too sure why because it’s not like he’s some sort of motion picture arbiter of quality (though he was in Breaking Bad, which was all sorts of awesome).

Title: Horrible Bosses 2

Scare factor: not scary

Famous people: a bunch – Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx, Chris Pine, Jonathan Banks (seemingly playing the same character as he portrayed in Breaking Bad)

Was it any good: yeah it’s good. First one was great and they tried so hard to make the sequel live up to it. It’s obvious they tried that hard and it might have had the opposite effect.

Budget: $42,000,000

Box office: $106,000,000 – not bad.

What’s it about: Nick, Kurt, and Dale are back to their bumbling ways trying to be their own bosses while selling the “shower buddy”, or “shower daddy” if you’re creepy. I’m not going to get into a lot of details, or really any, here. There are jokes abound, and then they follow them up with a joke about the joke, etc. That’s where the…
